Cosmas Giallourakis, M.D.

Cosmas focuses on collaborating to build the next generation of high impact innovative companies utilizing his experiences at the interface of basic science, drug development and clinical care. Prior to TRV, Cosmas was a Director at Takeda Pharmaceuticals where he was responsible for developing multiple partnerships and platforms on emerging technologies, along with leading drug development teams in cell and gene therapies. In addition, he is a co-founder of Circ Bio and other biotech startups. Before transitioning to industry, Cosmas was a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), where he headed a lab centered on fundamental aspects of RNA and epigenetics and maintained an active gastroenterology clinical practice. Cosmas’s academic research has been published in journals such as Cell, Science and Nature.
Cosmas studied physics at MIT with training in internal medicine residency at Yale and gastroenterology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital / Harvard Medical School. He completed post-doctoral training in immunology in the laboratory of HHMI Professor Frederick Alt, PhD. When not working on building companies, Cosmas can be found improving his surfing skills, hiking, playing tennis or reading about art and furniture design.
